Karan Kundra: I Aim to

Kitani Mohabbat Hai star Karan Kundra is not worried about being compared to other TV actors entering Bollywood and rather aims to compete with Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra.

Karan, 29, who made his Bollywood debut with Vikram Bhatt's Horror Story, feels that there is no contest between him and his contemporaries on TV.

"I don't feel any competition with TV actors because I am already at par with them. In fact, I want to make myself able enough to compete with the Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra in the industry. That's my aim," Karan told PTI.

The small screen has seen many of its popular faces like Sushant Singh Rajput, Jay Bhanushali and Sidharth Shukla transitioning to Bollywood in recent times. (Also read: Karan Kundra "Really Happy" to Play Vampire in Serial)

Karan, however, says he will continue to juggle between the two mediums.

The actor, who was last seen on TV in reality show Gumraah, is returning to fiction with a love story Fannah, where he plays the role of a vampire. He will also be seen in Dil Phire.

"This is a cool show and the role is very real. The time is of real characters, no one wants to watch nice and good people. My role has negative shades and is more relatable," he said.

The MTV show is a finite series of six months and might have more seasons if the first one works. (Also read: Karan Kundra: This is the right time to debut in films)

The actor, who is currently shooting for a Punjabi film, finds the concept of fixed duration shows great and thinks daily soaps are not cool anymore.

"Fannah is not a daily soap. Daily soaps are uncool and hectic. I like having time for myself. Actors on TV don't have a life, they only work, this is something I can't do and as I also do films, a finite series is manageable for me," he said.

Ranveer is shooting a commercial in Bucharest but will come home the long way round, having taken a detour to be with his alleged love interest.(Also read: Ranbir Kapoor's Birthday Surprise for Katrina Kaif )

Salman Khan: Holiday Season Does Matter a Lot for Releases

Salman Khan, who chooses festive seasons to release his mega movies, continues the trend with Kick, which is coming out on the Eid weekend. He believes choosing the right slot is important from business perspective.

He said: "Be it Eid or Diwali, the holiday season matters a lot. There is no (big) release during Ramadan, so when a film releases during this period (Eid), people throng to the theatres to see that film. Again with Diwali being a festive season, people want to go and see the film with family."

In the last few years, Salman has earmarked Eid for his mega releases and most of them turned out to be bumper hits. His Kick, which marks the directorial debut of Sajid Nadiadwala, will hit the screens July 25. (Also Read: Salman's Eid Connection)

Usually one big movie releases on each festival, but Salman is of the view that "Festivals like Diwali, Holi, Republic Day and Christmas can accommodate three to four films."

Aamir to Play Peacemaker Between Salman and Photographers?

Aamir Khan, who recently made a public appearance in support of his daughter Ira's charity football match, is said to have had a word with photographers over their ongoing ban on his friend, Salman Khan. (Also Read: No Provision to Ban Anyone: Salman Khan on Paparazzi Boycott)

A source says, "On Sunday, Salman and Jacqueline Fernandez had attended the match. However, most of photographers covering the event didn't take his pictures. Later on, once Salman stepped away from the group, the photographers took snaps of everyone else."

On his part, Salman has gone on record to say that it is the photographers' choice if they want to click his pictures or not. In fact, at the last few promotional events for his film, Kick, he is said to have made snide remarks about photographers. However, Aamir seems to have decided to look into the matter.

A source says, "While interacting with media, Aamir got to know about photographers' ongoing ban on Salman and he had a word with the lensmen. He has apparently promised them that he will try talking to Salman and see what he can do to resolve the issue."

Interestingly, after the match, Salman hugged Abhishek Bachchan. Photographers present at the event chose to not to photograph the duo hugging each other.

Aamir's spokesperson was unavailable for comment.

Salman Khan on Nargis Fakhri: Why So Much Negativity About Her?

Salman Khan, known for promoting newcomers in Bollywood, has given Nargis Fakhiri an opportunity to feature in a song in his movie Kick and feels that mindset about the "pretty and outstanding dancer" is baseless.

"Nargis has done a song in the film, which is outstandingly great. I really like her, her energy is great, and I think she will benefit a lot with the song," said Salman.

"I don't know why there was so much negativity about Nargis earlier. I think she is a very pretty girl, an outstanding dancer and a lovely person to work with. She has got a great sense of humour," he added.

The direction debut of Sajid Nadiadwala, Kick is set for release on July 25 and the superstar will romance Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez in the action drama.

Drawing a comparison between Nargis and his on-screen leading lady Jacqueline, Salman pointed out the similarities between them.

"Both are very spontaneous and chilled out, they are like the girls-next-door. Jacqueline has got this film only because of her hard work and everyone deserves a second chance. Jacqueline was the best choice. We are grateful that she did the film."

The New Man in Sonam Kapoor's Life

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor has found herself in some pretty Khoobsurat company for her next film. Sonam's Prince Charming is Pakistani heartthrob actor Fawad Khan, who already seems to have a fan base in India judging from the reactions on Twitter. (Also Read: Sonam Kapoor is Khoobsurat and Hilarious in New Trailer )
So, just who is Fawad Khan? Well, he started out as a singer in Pakistan in the group Entity Paradigm and then went on to become a highly successful actor in television serials Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai. It seems that Fawad has made the cross-border transition to Bollywood rather smoothly, though playing the brooding foil to madcap Sonam couldn't have been easy.

Apart from Fawad, Khubsoorat also features heavyweight actors such as Ratna Pathak Shah, who seems to be in stellar form as a regal matriarch - a role she inherits from her mother Dina Pathak who played the stern disciplinarian in the original Hrishikesh Mukherjee hit. Kirron Kher, who plays Sonam's outspoken mother in the film, is also in fine fettle. Theatre star Aamir Raza Husain is also part of the supporting cast and plays a member of the royal family Sonam is thrown together with.

We're certainly getting a Princess Diaries feel from the movie and it seems that the Kapoors, including Sonam's sister Rhea and her father Anil, who have co-produced the film, have managed to court not just Prince Charming, but a very royal cast as well.

Pakistani Actor Fawad Khan on Bollywood Debut: Art Travels Across Borders

Fawad Afzal Khan, one of the most popular Pakistani singer-actors, has drawn flak back home for his decision to enter Bollywood. But he is unperturbed and says that art is something that travels across all borders.

He is making his debut with Khoobsurat, a remake of Hrishikesh Mukerji's 1980 hit of the same name, opposite Sonam Kapoor. But even before the film's release, Fawad has earned a huge fan following thanks to his show Zindagi Gulzar Hai, which was aired on Zindagi channel. (Also read: Sneak Peek: Sonam Kapoor's First Kiss, a Khoobsurat Moment )

When asked about his reaction on the criticism, he said, "The people you are talking about are very few. There will be people who will criticize. They are entitled to their opinion. Even if someone from India goes to work there, someone or the other will make noise."

"Art is something that travels across all borders. Art knows no culture and creed. As an actor, I would like to explore myself. I do feel bad, but I choose to ignore criticism. I think to pay attention to it is unnecessary," he told reporters on Monday at the trailer launch of Khoobsurat here.

Charming as ever, he wowed everyone when he sang the title song of his show Zindagi Gulzar Hai at the event.

Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Khoobsurat has been produced by Sonam's father Anil Kapoor and sister Rhea under the banner Anil Kapoor's Film Company Pvt Ltd. For Fawad, it's an honour to collaborate with the Kapoors for his Bollywood debut. (Also read: Sonam Kapoor is Khoobsurat and Hilarious in New Trailer )

He said, "I think it's a very big honour for me to work with the family. When I met these people, I found them very interesting. Most of all, the way I was treated and welcomed was very kind and warm."

"So all in all, this has been a very interesting episode in my life. I had a lot of fun. There was a lot of love and warmth," he added.

Fawad praised Sonam for being "a very accommodating, very warm, and very welcoming person".

"I took time for settling in the new environment, but the entire team, the production, everyone made sure to make me feel comfortable," he said.

Releasing on September 19, the film sees Ratna Pathak stepping into the shoes of her mother Dina Pathak, who is still remembered for playing a disciplinarian and strict mother in the original.

Sonam Kapoor: I am Just an Actor, There's No Responsibility

Actress Sonam Kapoor on Monday unveiled the trailer of her forthcoming film Khoobsurat, and said the film's producer and director have "exposed me completely in this film".

The movie, which is a remake of 1980s super-hit film Khubsoorat that featured Rekha and Rakesh Roshan, has been directed by Shashanka Ghosh and produced by Sonam's sister Rhea.

Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Afzal Khan will be seen as the male lead in the movie.

"There was no problem on the set because Rhea, Shashanka and the writer (Indira Bisht) knew me so well that very shamelessly they have taken every part of my personality and exposed me completely in the film," Sonam told reporters at the launch.

Although it is her home production, Sonam didn't have to take any extra responsibility other than acting. (Also read: Sonam Kapoor is Khoobsurat and Hilarious in New Trailer )

"I am just an actor, there's no responsibility. It's only Rhea and Shashanka's responsibility, I have only done acting and nothing else," said the 29-year-old actress.

"When I take on a job as an actor, I only concentrate on doing that, otherwise there is a conflict. You have to just do your best with what you have got," she said and added that when she starts thinking about the responsibilities, then she "won't be able to go to work next day in the morning".

"So it's just the matter of taking each day, enjoying my work and saying that I will be a selfish actor and I will do my best for the film," Sonam said. (Also read: Sneak Peek: Sonam Kapoor's First Kiss, a Khoobsurat Moment )

In the recent past, Sonam has been part of hits like Raanjhanaa and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. However, her last release Bewakoofiyaan bombed at the box office.

Shashanka said that his version takes the story forward.

"Original was just a clash of values within the family and here we have taken it a little further but we have held on to the core idea," she added.

If Dina Pathak played a strict mother in the original, her daughter Ratna will be seen in the remake.

"Neon pink is not my colour. I was a little nervous about my outfit but Sulakshana convinced me and I finally agreed. I think it turned out pretty well considering the loud cheers that welcomed me on the ramp," the Barfi actress said.

The collection, titled Redefining Opulence, included floral prints on semi textured fabrics, all based in rich shades of silver, gold, ruby, pink and sapphire.

Bobby Jasoos (2014)

Bobby [Vidya Balan] hails from a modest neighbourhood of Hyderabad. Her parents [Rajendra Gupta, Supriya Pathak] are keen she gets married, but Bobby is keen to chase her dreams of becoming a detective. She offers to work for a leading detective agency, but when things don’t work out, she starts her own detective agency — Bobby Jasoos P. Ltd.
Slowly but surely, the cases start coming in, but the cases are trivial and don’t interest her. The story takes a turn when Anees Khan [Kiran Kumar] offers Bobby to trace some missing people. Glad that she has made a beginning, Bobby grabs the offer instantly, but as she starts the investigations, she realizes something is amiss…
Unlike the protagonists of MR JOE B. CARVALHO and SAMRAT & CO., who ended up looking like a parody of Sherlock Holmes, first-time director Samar Shaikh and writer Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh ensure they instill anxiety, the feeling of uneasiness and make the spectator impatient as the drama unfolds. Concurrently, the element of mystery is wonderfully intertwined in the narrative, which draws the audience into the world of Bobby and the case she decides to take up. The twists and turns that ensue — when Bobby realizes that this case is not as plain sailing as it appears to be — involve the spectators completely, also because the writer and director make sure the film doesn’t follow the stereotypical formula.

Ek Villain (2014)

Guru is a quiet, tough and ruthless boy, working for a politician, Prahlad. A dark past refuses to let Guru sleep at night until he meets a girl, Aisha. He falls in love with her, his life changes and he convinces Aisha to get married to him.
Guru even quits his job and moves from Goa to Mumbai to make a new beginning with Aisha. Just when things seem perfect, she falls prey to an attack.Devastated, Guru starts hunting the miscreant and is shocked to learn of his seemingly innocuous and simple identity. Something is amiss and Guru is unable to place a finger on the precise problem.Who is the real assailant and what is his motive?
The plot thickens as the astonishing mystery unveils and new realizations come to the forefront.Instead of narrating the tale in a linear fashion, Mohit Suri uses an altogether different mode this time — reverse narration — whereby the story unfolds after the catastrophe has occurred. The tender moments between the lovers, the upheaval in their lives caused by the antagonist, the twisted game of cat and mouse and the thrilling twist in the finale… Mohit has a knack of narrating stories with flourish and the tale he sets out to narrate in EK VILLAIN keeps you on your toes all through.
Mohit makes EK VILLAIN an enthralling experience, no two opinions on that. Although a number of movies have focused on serial killers, the talented raconteur along with screenplay writer Tushar Hiranandani [also the creative director of the film] makes sure they pack several remarkable twists that transcend the genre, making it a novel experience for the spectator. The undercurrent of tension and the violent crimes are intertwined skillfully with the affectionate moments between the lovers and the emotional turmoil that the protagonist goes through. The writing, in short, keeps you captivated right through the finale, which, again, is not of the run of the mill variety. As a matter of fact, the clash between the good and the evil towards the concluding stages is the icing on the cake.

After the success of Teri galliyan in Ek Villain, Shraddha has once again sung a Kashmiri folk song in Haider.

"Arshia is a Kasmiri girl and the role is different. I needed to understand the way a Kashmiri girl behaves and Vishal sir helped me with that. Tabu ma'am and I sang for the film but we didn't sing together," she said.

Shot primarily in Kashmir, Haider will hit theatres on October 2 with Bang Bang starring Hrithik Roshan

"...that be the pensiveness from Shamitabh... It is getting exceedingly difficult to preserve a look for a film or occasion when we have millions of mobile cameras following us and immortalising us... Thank you," Mr Bachchan posted on his blog.

Mr Bachchan's look in the R Balki's directed film was already out on the social media last month.

Alia Bhatt Fell in Love with Shahid Kapoor at the Age of 11

Alia Bhatt, who has confirmed she has signed Vikas Bahl's Shaandar for a role with Shahid Kapoor, says she's a fan of the actor, whom she first fell in love with when she was all of 11. (Also Read: I am a Very Clumsy Human Being: Alia Bhatt)

"I'm a huge Shahid Kapoor fan. I must have been 11 years old when I went to see Shahid in Ishq Vishk at Gaiety Galaxy (in Mumbai). I've been a fan since then. He is a fabulous actor and from what I hear, a very supportive co-star," Alia said.

When we asked her if Shahid was a generation removed from most of the co-stars Alia had worked with so far, she corrected that by saying, "You forget I've done Highway with Randeep Hooda. But yes, that apart, I've so far worked with actors my own age. So there was a natural comfort level with them.

"But it's not like Shahid is any different from Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor or Sidharth Malhotra. He is a very chilled-out guy. He has been around for so many years. I am sure he's a thorough professional. And I am really looking forward to working with him."

The actress, who was recently seen in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, admits there is plenty on the plate. But she isn't allowed to speak about them all yet. She is, however, excited about Shaandar.

"I'm very excited. I loved his (Vikas Bahl's) Queen. And I am really looking forward to what he does in the film with me," said the Highway actress.

Shaandar is to be shot in an undisclosed part of England later this year. Bahl's last film, the much-lauded Queen had been shot in Paris, one of Alia's favourite cities where she got a chance to holiday recently.

"I am very excited about this film. It's something I haven't done so far. I want to work with every major actor," she said.

"Whenever I wear Indian outfit, I make sure I accessorise it well with jewellery and today I am feeling like a queen. I started my career as a model and it's great to come back to Delhi again and walk on ramp. It was such a great welcome that I felt emotional,a Bipasha shared after the show.

The actress, who was looking like a bride, was bombarded with questions on her wedding.

Asked that whether she would like to adorn the similar heavy pieces on her wedding day, she said, "I would love to look like a Bengali bride and I don't mind if I get the chance to wear such beautiful looking pieces. Afterall, every bride wants to look her best on the most special day of her life."

Chitrangada, on the other hand, took her inspiration from the famous Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe when she walked down the ramp.

"Yes I tried to replicate her (Marilyn) but it is not easy . Doing Marilyn is not easy for anyone. She was someone who has inspired many but I tried to give it my best," she said.

The show was mix of jewelleries from the Svara and Sondaraya collection of the title sponsor of the couture week. Pieces inlaid in gold and diamonds, embellished with precious stones such as emeralds, rubies and pearls, dominated the range of designs.

The Svara collection comprised of gold and polka jewellery embellished in precious stones such as emerald and ruby while Sondaraya was a variable mix of traditional motifs and contemporary styles in diamond jewellery.

Also seen walking the ramp was filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and model-actor Muzammil Ibrahim.

One of the highpoints of the show was live singing by Kamaal Khan who sung tracks including Afreen , Ishq Sufiana and Mein Tenu Samjhawan.

"I agree that one should be fit and take care of one's body as there is no excuse to be unfit. But I feel that Indian women are naturally blessed with beautiful curves. Just because somebody says you need to be perfect, one should not kill herself to achieve that. Be proud of your curves," she added.

Huma also said that one should not try to modify one's body just because someone else doesn't like the way you are.

"Don't be embarrassed about your body. Yes, as an actress, if I have to play a model or wear something where I need to look toned, I would obviously work towards that because that is a part of my job. But my real life is mine and this is how I look. So don't be apologetic about how you look," she said.

The actress also recalled her childhood memories when she used to get teased by her schoolmates because of her body weight.

"I was quite a chubby kid, so I used to get teased by schoolmates because of my body weight," said Huma.

The Gangs of Wasseypur actress looked like a true diva when she walked the ramp for Rimple and Harpreet in a dull gold lehanga with antique zari detailing and a tulle trail. She completed the look with minimal jewellery and hair left loose.

The designer duo presented a collection titled "The Eternal Wanderlust", inspired by nomads and wanderers who used to abound in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (in Pakistan), the Thar and Sahara deserts, ancient Persia and Syria.

The duo used hand crafted textures created by intricate fabric manipulation and crocheting, monogrammed coins, weaves of delicate tulles and gossamer silks. Also, there were tessellations inspired by Islamic Art that were juxtaposed with fine hand embroideries to veritably breathe life onto the surfaces of each ensemble.

The silhouettes comprised of capes and robes, sheer billowy jackets and regal cloaks.

Sharing her experience of walking on ramp for the designer-duo, Huma said "I have done a shoot with them and I really like their bridal work. It's interesting to walk for them. Also, since the fashion week was happening in Delhi, I thought why not? I always look for excuses to visit Delhi."

Also spotted at the show was cricketer Virendra Sehwag accompanied by wife Aarti.

Kapoor Family's Ancestral Home in Peshawar Crumbling: Report

The dilapidated ancestral home of Indian film industry's celebrated Kapoor family in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar may crumble soon, according to a media report.

The Kapoors lived in Dhakki near Peshawar's Qissa Khwani Bazaar - the famous street of storytellers - before partition.

A Dawn report today delved on the depressing state of the building that once housed the Kapoors.

"The air inside their old (Kapoor) haveli is still, the gloom in the empty rooms is like time mourning its own passage, a surrender to dust, to dampness and to death. It is the indifference of a terminal patient to a visitor who brings no hope but stands by the bed," the paper reported. (Also read: Shah Rukh Khan Wishes Newcomer Armaan 'Happy First Step')

The reporter of the newspaper, who visited the home, says he treaded "carefully as rubble falls from the roof, wary of breaking a mold-infested floorboard and go down to the dark basement where the building may collapse on itself one day if not saved soon."

"It will add to the debris under Dhakki, the old city neighbourhood built over a mound of rubble beneath which lie many lost civilisations."

The report speaks of the nostalgia that Raj Kapoor evokes.

According to the reporter, he entered the house through a hole in the back wall to see the creak of rusty hinges tearing through the silence. (Also read: Ranbir, Armaan: For The Love of Kapoors and Football)

It also appreciated the house's magnificent façade and ornate jharokas fit for a royal palace in some princely state.

"The haveli stands silent, crumbling. People walk by, indifferent to the building or its significance."

He also visited Dilip Kumar's ancestral home in Feelkhana Nawab Nasir Khan -- the street where the last Mughal governor Nasir Khan maintained an elephant shed.

Dilip Kumar's house recently made news when Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif declared it a national heritage.

Next on the trail of ancestral homes of famous Bollywood actors from Peshawar was Shah Rukh Khan's.

His cousin Maqsood Ahmad, a frail laconic man, said Shah Rukh's father, Taj Mohammad Khan, and his brother Ghulam Mohammad Gama, were staunch supporters of Congress.

Partition saw Taj Mohammad leaving Pakistan to escape arrest and his brother Ghulam imprisoned for seven years.

Alia Bhatt: I am a Very Clumsy Human Being

Bollywood's young star Alia Bhatt put up a confident front while walking a three-ramp set-up in a lehenga as heavy as over 20 kg, for ace designer Manish Malhotra's show at the Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week. She said she was nervous as she's usually clumsy.

"I get very nervous. I am not the best walker. I am a very clumsy human being, I fall (while) standing, so walking on the ramp wearing (an outfit of) almost 25 kg and high heels, looking good, posing and smiling while people are clapping. I think it's nerve wrecking, but I think it's the best two minutes," Alia told reporters here post the show. (Also read: After Emraan Hashmi, is Cousin Alia the Next Big Serial Kisser?)

With minimalist make-up, a roughly done-up hairdo and no jewellery, Alia carried the red bridal wear couture outfit, adorned by vintage gold embroidery, with aplomb Saturday night.

Adding more Bollywood flavour on the ramp was Aashiqui 2 actor Aditya Roy Kapur, while off the stage and in the audience were names like Urmila Matondkar and Huma Qureshi. (Also read: Alia Bhatt is the Robert De Niro of Our Generation: Varun Dhawan)

Alia is fresh out of tasting success with her latest Hindi film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, in which her character is hell-bent on getting a lehenga worn by Kareena Kapoor in a film. Here, she was happy that in real life, she was getting a chance to walk for Manish Malhotra, who is one of Bollywood's favourite designers and has been responsible to lend a makeover to many of Hindi cinema's heroines.

"I think when you're walking in a Manish Malhotra outfit, it's a big day. It's a special day. I was telling someone that I am very happy that my film has done well, but I'm happier to be walking for Manish. It's a great achievement," Alia said.

She also recalled a time when she was in the audience for a Manish Malhotra show.

She told, "I was here two years back and Katrina (Kaif) was walking the ramp. I was sitting in the audience with Karan (Johar) and was thinking, 'How do people walk?'

"I remember Katrina was sitting and her outfit looked heavy. I had no idea then how heavy it was but when you walk yourself, you realise how heavy it is. But it's beautiful, I loved it," she added.

Kangana Ranaut: Coming Back to Paparazzi is a Bit Intimidating

Actress Kangana Ranaut, who was away from the limelight to pursue her filmmaking course in New York, is back with a bang. However, she says that coming back to paparazzi was "intimidating" and she is still adjusting to all the attention.

As she walked the ramp for designer Anju Modi at the ongoing Couture Week, she tripped but took it sportingly. She mesmerised the audience with her beautiful smile and looked true diva in Anju's creation. (Also read: Deepika Padukone Likes Kangana Ranaut's Style)

"I am just back from New York. It was like going back to school. This is my first public outing after coming back from New York. So I took it in a very easy way but it was not. Coming back to paparazzi was intimidating. I couldn't believe I was back here," she said after the show.

The Queen actress, who was wearing a heavily embroidered black lehanga-choli, said she was an avid supporter of Indian wear.

"It's not that I don't support Indian creation. In fact, I wore a lot of AM:PM (a designer label) during the promotion of Queen. They wanted me to wear Indian clothes," she told IANS.

"However, it's sad that we are getting lot westernised, the way parties are held, the way we dress up, everything has got westernised. If I go to a party wearing an Indian dress like this, I don't know how the media would react," she added. (Also read: Queen Kangana Poised to Rule China)

Kangana has created a niche for herself with films like Fashion and Queen and has garnered appreciation for her out-of-the-box choices.

She believes there is still a long way to go. "I am not a global artist," she said.

Designer Anju Modi called her collection "Manikarnika" - that reflects a woman of the past, reborn in the present.

The collection was an exploration of the age-old craft and ancient techniques.

The embroideries were derived from the architecture, with the paintings of the Ajanta-Ellora caves as perfect muses to the artwork and details.

The colour palette mirrored the earthy, sepia tones like sand, old rose, reminiscent of the past centuries. The rich jewel tones of burgundy, ruby, emerald added to the plushness of luxury.

The designer said that Indian art and craft was getting a lot of global attention.

"Indian crafts, the colours, the sensibilities, the artistry and the architecture have become very international. There is no boundary, it's like a global village. There is a lot of fusion happening, so even if you wear a T-shirt and it has embroidery, then you are wearing an Indian design," she told IANS.

Salman Khan on Paparazzi Ban: Both Sides Stand to Lose

Actor Salman Khan, who has been banned by the paparazzi, says that the loss is on both sides even as he made it clear that photographers should not be under any misconception that stars exist because of them.

Last week, at a promotional event here of the 48-year-old actor's upcoming film Kick, camera-persons requested Salman to pose at a particular spot, which he reportedly turned down. (Also read: I'm Not That Pure a Person Anymore: Salman Khan)

Apparently thereafter a scuffle took place between the photographers and Salman's security guards at the event following which the actor went on to say, "Those who want to cover the event are welcome to stay, the rest can leave if they wish."

This worsened the situation after which press photographers decided to boycott the Dabangg star. Asked to comment, Salman said, "Why should I step in it is not my job. It is between (private) bodyguards and press photographers. I am a star I have come here. I stand and you take pictures. It is your choice to not to take my pictures. I hope they can survive."

"At least there are some people who have taken a stand whether it is right or wrong is a different thing. It is their loss and even my loss in this thing," he said in an interview here. (Also read: Salman Khan on Boycott by Paparazzi: Will Respect Them If They Stick to Stand)

"If they think, we cannot to do without them or if they think we are there because of them then it is not true. This has to be checked. We stand there because they are working hard. They have to make money (as well) as they have family," he said.

"Even after getting pictures, the photographers keep waiting and clicking photos. Also, I would be happy if that whole fraternity says we will not take his pictures. I would be really happy," he added.

Kangana Ranaut: Sonam Kapoor is the Best Dressed Actress in Bollywood

It seems Kangana Ranaut is nursing no grudges against Sonam Kapoor as she has called the Khoobsurat star among the best dressed heroines in Bollywood.

It is believed that Sonam took pot shots at Kangana, 27, when she said on a chat show that bad looking people are considered good actors in Bollywood, probably hinting at Kangana's performances in Queen and Revolver Rani.

Quizzed about the best dressed actresses in the Hindi Film industry, Kangana said, "These days everyone dresses really well. Jacqueline is very well dressed and so is Sonam Kapoor. Even Deepika Padukone dresses well." Kangana was in the city to walk the ramp for designer Anju Modi on the day two of the ongoing India Couture Week.

Anju made a mark in Bollywood with her traditional outfits in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram-Leela. She has again teamed up with the director for his next film Bajirao Mastani that again stars Deepika and Ranveer Singh in the lead.

"Anjuji is changing the face of fashion in Bollywood. Our industry tends to get inspired or impressed by the western fashion. It is nice for a designer like Anjuji who works with our culture and traditions," Kangana said.

She may have won a National award for playing a supermodel in Fashion but Kangana looked nervous as she took to the runway. She once again tripped but covered the slight goof-up with an affectionate smile.

The actress, who returned from New York recently, said she finds it uneasy to deal with paparazzi in India. (Also Read: Kangana's returns to face Indian paparazzi)

"I am just back from New York. It was like going back to school. This is my first public outing after coming back from New York. So I took it in a very easy way but it was not. Coming back to paparazzi was intimidating. I couldn't believe I was back here," she said.

Kangana looked beautiful in a heavily embroidered black skirt teamed with full sleeved top especially curated by the designer for her.

Anju's collection, titled Manikarnika, was an exploration of age-old craft and ancient techniques. The embroideries were derived from the architecture, with the paintings of the Ajanta-Ellora caves serving as a major inspiration.

Models sashayed down the ramp in dhoti teamed with long jacket and kurtas. Even sarees were worn as dhotis.

"The film was made on a budget of Rs.1.5 crore and it managed to collect about Rs.80 lakh in its opening weekend in the state. We are expecting to make some money from the satellite rights as well," the film's producer T Rama Satyanarayana told IANS. (Also read: Ram Gopal Varma gets threat, security beefed up)

Nimrat Kaur: Haven't Signed Saurabh Shukla's Film Yet

The Lunchbox actress Nimrat Kaur would "love" to work under Saurabh Shukla's direction but, squashing media reports that she's signed a film with him, she says she's "still in talks" with him.

The grapevine suggested that Nimrat and Rajkummar Rao had been signed for the film.

Nimrat told IANS, "I haven't signed anything, nor has Rajkummar. Both of us have liked the project."

She is still waiting to discuss the project with Saurabh Shukla, a veteran actor-director.

"I really love the script. Saurabh is fantastic as an actor and I would love to see how it would work with him as a director. He has got great sensibilities. The script is amazing, so I would really love to do the film. But like I said, I haven't signed it yet," said the actress, who received acclaim for her portrayal of a lovelorn wife named Ila in The Lunchbox.

Chetan Bhagat: There's a Shortage of Good Writers in the Film Industry

Author Chetan Bhagat, who has penned the screenplay of Kick starring Salman Khan, finds that the film industry suffers a dearth of good scripts and writers. (Also Read: Movies help me reach more Indians: Chetan Bhagat)

"There are talented people in this industry. We have some good writers here. I feel there are some movies being made out of books, and there are movies which are also fresh. But there's definitely a shortage of writers and good scripts," Chetan told IANS.

"You can't order a good script and buy it, there is a big supply issue," he added.

Four of Chetan's books have been made into films.

His bestselling novel 2 States: The Story Of My Marriage was recently made into a movie which starred Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, and it struck the right chord with the masses.

Two others managed to paint a successful box office story - 3 idiots (based on Five Point Someone) and Kai Po Che! (based on The 3 Mistakes Of My Life), while Hello, inspired by his One Night @ the Call Center did not get a great reception.

The writer is already impressed by the promo of Kick, which marks the debut of producer Sajid Nadiadwala as a director.

"Sajid had bought the rights of 2 States, and after that, we became good friends. He called me to his office and said he would make Kick and would like me to be part of it.

"I was okay because I had not done a pure screenplay before. I didn't know how it will all pan out, so on a gut feeling and on a personal relationship, I said 'yes'. When the promos came out, I was dazzled myself."

Pizza Director Akshay Akkineni is Not Comfortable With Commercial Films

Akshay Akkineni, who is making his debut as a feature film director with supernatural thriller Pizza, says he is not comfortable directing the usual song and dance routine films.

Akshay is the son of celebrated film editor Sreekar Prasad. Pizza, which is the Hindi remake of the eponymous Tamil film, is releasing on July 18. (Also Read: Arunoday speaks about his role in Pizza)

"I don't think so I will be comfortable directing a song and dance routine film. It's something that I don't like and I won't be happy doing something like that. We are taking a risk with Pizza but I don't mind it," Akshay told PTI.

The director, however, clarified that he would not mind directing great 'masala' entertainers.

"I am not okay doing typical sex and sleaze films. They are not my cup of tea but there are good masala films too. I would like to make them," Akshay said.

Akshay feels that though the film is a remake, the approach is fresh, thanks to the use of 3D technology. "It was the most challenging as well the most exciting aspect of the film. It will give extension to the film," he said, adding producer Bejoy Nambiar was initially apprehensive to use the technology.

Films of the horror genre have not done so well in the box office as compared to romantic comedies, action thrillers and Akshay said the main reason is lack of quality horror films.

"We haven't given good horror films to the audience, that's why people don't give good response to such films. We have tried consciously to be different with Pizza. It has elements of horror and suspense-thriller," he said.

When asked if he will continue to helm horror films, Akshay said, "I don't think so as there is a special kind of skill required for the job and I am yet to have that. I am not cut out for it yet. Romance pulls me more. I would like to direct a love story."

Pizza stars Akshay Oberoi, Parvathy Omanakuttan and Dipannita Sharma.

Bejoy Nambiar: Amitabh Bachchan is Ridiculously Humble

Director-producer Bejoy Nambiar, who is set to direct Amitabh Bachchan in his next thriller, finds the megastar "ridiculously humble" for his stature. (Also read: Bejoy Nambiar: Pizza Not Frame-By-Frame Remake of Tamil Version )

Bejoy, who last directed David and has produced the upcoming supernatural thriller Pizza, will direct the untitled movie, produced and written by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film also stars Farhan Akhtar and Aditi Rao Hydari.

"For the kind of person he is, he is overtly and ridiculously humble. He makes you feel comfortable. In fact, the first thing he did when we met was that he cracked a joke. I was completely taken aback. He does not let stardom come in between," Bejoy told PTI in an interview in Mumbai.

The director, who will start the film in September this year, said he is still waiting for the "fanboy" in him to get out and look at Mr Bachchan as an actor.

"I am in awe of him. I need to spend more time with him. I am waiting to overcome my 'fanboyness'," he said.

Pizza, a remake of the hit Tamil film of the same name, marks the direction debut of Akshay Akkineni and stars Akshay Oberoi and Parvathy Omanakuttan in the lead roles.

Akshay Kumar: Love the Heyy Babyy Genre of Entertainment the Most

Known as an action and comedy star, Bollywood's khiladi Akshay Kumar, who delivered a hit with Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, says that he enjoys doing a range of movies for his fans, but loves the Heyy Babby genre of entertainment the most.

In an interview, Akshay speaks about his next release Entertainment, the fact that he works with newcomers and the variety of work that he chooses as an actor.

Excerpts from the interview:

Ques: Your next release Entertainment is an out-an-out comedy. Do you feel your fan-base enjoys you in laughathons the most?
Akshay Kumar: My fans are incredible! Whatever makes them happy, I'm willing to do. They gave me so much praise for Holiday and requested I do more cinema like this. But at the same time they said they still can't wait for Entertainment to release! So I think if I give them the best of both worlds, which I'm juggling to do now with my next three films, then by god's grace they'll be happy, and I'll feel worthy of their love and support. I am nothing without them.

Ques: That's really modest of you.
Akshay Kumar: It's the truth! Actors are the ones that are supposed to set trends. But it doesn't matter how much we think something works, if the audience says 'NO MATE', we can do nothing but walk away with our tails between our legs and come back with a better option next time. (Also read: Akshay Kumar's Singing Voice in It's Entertainment is Female)

Ques: Curiously your main co-star in Entertainment seems to be an over-sized canine. The last film I remember about the rapport between the hero and a canine was Teri Meherbaniyan with Jackie Shroff. Do you feel films like Haathi Mere Saathi about the relationship between heroes and animals can grab today's audiences' attentions?
Akshay Kumar: Absolutely! In Entertainment, I think you'd have to be pretty cold-hearted not to feel for the Man vs Dog relationship. Believe me, there are more dog lovers out there than there are action freaks.

Ques: How relevant is Entertainment to today's definitions of movie entertainment?
Akshay Kumar: Comedy isn't relevant, comedy is what it is, it's timeless, it's fun, and if anyone tries to make it anything more than that, then they are "barking" up the wrong tree. Pun intended!

Ques: This is also your umpteenth film with a debutant director, a duo of debutant directors - Sajid-Farhad. Do you enjoy working with new directors as much as you do with established ones?
Akshay Kumar: Absolutely, if not more, as I can be more free to be versatile with debutants than with established directors, as they love to learn experiment and improvise with scenes as much as I do. Most acclaimed directors like to play it their way and their way only, which is great, because you can't be on fire all the time. But all kids like to run wild sometimes and if you're going to make a laughathon, you need to make it with open-minded people who have hearts bigger than India's map, and funny-bones softer than a puppy in a paddling pool. Ques: Curiously, you've lip-synced to a female playback voice in one of the songs in Entertainment. What brought that on?
Akshay Kumar: Well, I just couldn't resist. I was more than happy, if not delighted when I found out about 'lip syncing' a female voice. When you go all out for a film why stop at anything?

Ques: How keen are you at this stage of your career to do offbeat films, like you've done Neeraj Pandey's Special 26 and you're doing his Baby also. So which do you enjoy more - Baby or Heyy Babyy?
Akshay Kumar: I'll always enjoy doing a Heyy Babyy more, because entertainment is, of course, entertainment. But doing a serious Baby is extremely fulfilling and rewarding as an individual and an actor. But seeing as I have the luck and the luxury to be invited to be a part of both, I can only say this that I love my work, be it funny, serious, emotional, or useless. It makes me appreciate all I have done, good, bad or indifferent. I'm just glad I've done something.

Ques: One sees you working with a slew of new actresses these days Tamannah, Taapsee Pannu, Kriti Sanon. Why do you need to constantly work with newcomers?
Akshay Kumar: Why not? They deserve the right to be given a chance. I've always chosen to be instinctive rather than calculated. I think that's one of the nicest things about me. If all leading men worked with the same talented heroines, how would our industry ever grow? It's my duty to give back to this industry what was given to me.

Ques: And what's that?
Akshay Kumar: Opportunities

Salman Khan: I'm Not That Pure a Person Anymore

Salman Khan says shooting Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is the toughest film he is doing in so many years as the role requires him to be as "pure" as he was when he featured as Prem in the filmmaker's Hum Saath Saath Hain.

"It's the most difficult film I am doing in a very, very long time because it's been 13 years since I have worked with Sooraj. I have changed so much, I'm not that pure a person anymore. I have seen a lot more," the 47-year-old said here on Tuesday in an interview.

Hum Saath Saath Hain, which released in 1999, featured Salman as a shy, mamma's boy.

To be the same Prem again, Salman had to unlearn everything he has learnt in the past with films like Wanted, Dabangg and Bodyguard.

"It is very difficult for me to become that Prem once again. I am putting all my films together and this film separately, just to unlearn everything I have learnt so far," Salman said.

"Till that time I don't get that Prem, I don't feel it here, it is not going to show on my face. It is actually once again getting me back to what I used to be," he added.

However, Salman says that Sooraj Barjatya carries the same innocence.

"Sooraj is exactly the same. That innocence that Sooraj had when he wrote Maine Pyar Kiya at the age of 17, he still has that," added the 47-year-old.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo stars Sonam Kapoor opposite Salman and is slated for release in 2015.

Akshay Kumar: Holiday's Success Has Nothing to do With Fate of Other Films

Actor Akshay Kumar is proud that a film like Holiday, which focuses on terrorism and sleeper cells, managed a successful run at the box office. He is also glad that the makers chose a "commercial comedian" like him to portray a "heavy serious role" of a soldier. (Also Read: Love the Heyy Babyy Genre of Entertainment the Most: Akshay Kumar)

Holiday, released earlier this year, acquired a hit status in a year when there aren't that many successful films happening. Akshay has another view.

"Excuse my bluntness, but the triumph of Holiday has nothing to do with whether other films are running successfully or not. It has everything to do with the fact that such an honest, admirable film was recognised by friend and foes, audience and critics the world over, and was admired and appreciated for all its worth.

"That is what makes this wonderful blockbuster commendable," he said.

Initially, some of the skeptics had tried to write off the movie, directed by AR Murugadoss.

"Holiday has fought against all odds, from schedules, to accidents and injuries. I couldn't be happier for the makers and creators. We all did well with this one," said Bollywood's beloved khiladi, who featured with Sonakshi Sinha in the movie.

So, was Holiday was a mood-change for his career, considering it's comedies that he is most solidly identified with?

"My place will always be with action and comedy, it's where my heart is, and that's where and when my blood pumps. But my ambitions as an actor will never stop growing.

"Making films like Holiday inspires me to step out of my comfort zone with confidence, because deep down you know at the end of the day, no matter what the outcome, you know this project is worthy," he said.

Now post Holiday, Akshay will be seen in a comedy titled Entertainment. Did Holiday seem risky?

"I'm grateful to those that took the chance with me, and chose a 'commercial comedian' to portray such a heavy serious role. I may have been around for a while, but there is competition out there everyday and everywhere.

"It will always feel damn good to know you're wanted for roles that can change many people's paths in life."

Holiday was presented by Reliance Entertainment and produced by Vipul Shah, with whom Akshay has given hit films like Namastey London and Waqt: The Race Against Time in the past.
