Sanjay Dutt’s play cancelled due to security issues

Sanjay Dutt and director Rajkumar Hirani's efforts have gone in vain. Due to some security issues cropping up at the last minute, the play that was to be put up by the Yerawada Jail inmates at an auditorium in Pune yesterday was cancelled. In fact, the Dutt clan and many of Sanju's close friends like Rohit Shetty were halfway through to Pune, when they had to turn back and return to Mumbai. Most of the returning members gathered at a fast food joint on the outskirts of the city for burgers and milkshakes. They were extremely disappointed that they didn't get a chance to meet Sanju.

Movie Review: Maazii (2013)

Florist Tarun ( Sumeet Nijhawan), his wife Srishti ( Mona Wasu) and their little daughter live happily in the beautiful hills of Mussoorie. While Tarun is calm as a cucumber, Srishti is vivacious and dominating. Their idyllic life however gets a sudden jolt when Tarun ends up confronting two criminals who misbehave in his shop. The repercussions of that event put his and his family's life in jeopardy, also bringing to the forefront some startling revelations and brutal confessions. It's commendable that debutant director Jaideep Chopra delivers a spine-chilling thriller that has an international sensibility and feel to it. The film starts brilliantly. Major credit goes to actor Pankaj Tripathi for creating that psychological tension, an underlying air of somberness, through his eerie prologue. The film then shifts gear. The tension mellows. A happy 'family track' grabs our attention before we are transported back to the unveiling of a mystery. The 'whodunnit' thriller keeps you engaged throughout. Performances and cinematography are impressive and so is the story-telling. Nowhere does the film slow down or lose momentum. What we didn't like were a few irrelevant sub-plots and characters. The item song could have been easily avoided too. The bloodshed and violence start getting predictable and formulaic after a while. The portrayal of the media in the film is silly. The film also seems to be partially inspired by Hollywood film Taken. Overall, Maazii is a dark, haunting and unconventional tale of crime and redemption. In spite of no big names associated with it, it manages to hold your attention till the end.

Qubool Hai: Promo - 27th September 2013

Qubool Hain is a Muslim Social Drama in the "Rom Com" zone. It is the story of two families related by blood and yet distanced by circumstances. It is the story of two brothers Ayaan and Asad who are separated by their families but are united in their hearts. It is also the story of Zoya, a girl who starts by hating the culture of hypocrisy in joint families and eventually ends up bringing together the two warring families. The journey of the Khan family is seen through the eyes of our three protagonists…Zoya the young, spunky and progressive NRI, Ayaan the charming boy who falls for every beautiful face and Asad the man with the angst who eventually learns to love. The show begins at the point where Zoya runs away from a marriage that was being forced on her and a twist of fate makes her get married to Ayaan instead. Zoya enters the traditional, orthodox home of Ayaan…just the kind of family she distrusts and questions. She is a total misfit in the conservative home that is run by the super orthodox doyen of the family. And as is to be expected it leads to immediate disaster. A lot of squabbles ensue, especially between Ayaan and Zoya… and neither realize when they end up falling in love. In the meanwhile, Asad is engaged to a very traditional conservative girl. Asad though not quite in love with her, respects her immensely for her devout ways and is beginning to see a life with her. However, like fate usually does, things take a turn. Ayaan's temporary marriage to Zoya gets dissolved and Zoya finds out that Ayaan was responsible for it. And here, Asad finds out that his pious to be bride is a complete liar and was taking him for a ride all along. And now begins the next chapter of the story…. with Ayaan wanting to win back Zoya with whom he has totally fallen in love with and Asad vowing to never ever love again. Ayaan realizes that the only way he can win back Zoya is with the help of Asad. But Asad hates women and more so women like Zoya. So what will unfold now between the two brothers and Zoya?

I am Not High Maintenance: Sonam Kapoor

There’s a different girl behind the Ferragamo gown and Gucci shoes. You know her as a fashionista but then you really don’t know who she is. Sonam Kapoor has another, more reserved side, hidden away from the arc lights. Time and again, it peeps through in her choices. She chooses roles in films like Delhi-6 and Raanjhanaa. It also reflects in her words. She gives more importance to old songs and the warmth of her grandmother’s hug. Who says fashion is all plastic? Sonam adds a human hue to the glitz and glam. She appreciates the importance of being vulnerable. Like most women, she’s complicated. How would you define love? What is shown in films is not love but what you saw in Raanjhanaa is definitely love. In films, everything is just so perfect – perfect hero, perfect heroine and perfect situation. But in real life nothing is perfect. I believe love changes people. Do you believe that marriage destroys love? You can remain in love even after marriage. I don’t think love vanishes after marriage. It has been 28 years since my parents (Anil Kapoor and Sunita) have been married. Before that, they were dating for 11 years. They’ve been together for the past 39 years, yet they love each other. Recently, my dad asked me, “Find out in which year the film The Exorcist (1973) was released. That was the first time I held your mom’s hand.” He still remembers such small incidents. This is love. Do you have a boyfriend? I don’t have a boyfriend. And when I have one, he will definitely not be someone from the film industry. Would you be a high maintenance girlfriend? Not at all. My money is mine; I wouldn’t ask anything from anyone. I have not asked anything even from my father. Why will I ask anything from my boyfriend? I can take good care of myself. I don’t need a boyfriend for that. How difficult is it to live a normal life after becoming a star? Life doesn’t become difficult after becoming a star. There are stars who roam freely. I was 18 when I started working; I haven’t faced any problem till date. But yes, at times I wish I was a hero. Things are easier for them. For example, if the hero says that he’s tired or his face is not looking appropriate or he refuses to do a stunt, it’s fine. But if an actress does the same, they’ll say she is pretending. I don’t like this. Are you often misunderstood because of your frankness? I may come across as blunt. But actually I am a private person. Only those close to me understand me. Since, there is a gap between my personal and professional life, people see me as two different personalities. My father’s family is a film family. But my mother’s side is a normal, middle-class family, which includes bankers, engineers, architects and lawyers. Even my friends do not come from a filmi background. They aren’t awed by the fact that I am an actress. We hardly talk about films when we meet. How much do you seek your father’s support to get your way? I didn’t use my papa’s stardom for my progress. I want to leave my own impression. I have achieved that to an extent. I am his daughter, yet I don’t want to be known as his daughter, but as actress Sonam Kapoor. I ask him why he even needs to talk about me in his interviews. I have never asked him to talk to any filmmaker for me. I will make my own way. Who has influenced you the most in life? My maternal grandmother, my mother and my father. I am close to my grandmother. Mom and dad had to travel a lot because of work, so I often lived with my grandmother. My personality is very much influenced by hers. That’s why I developed a love for old songs, classical music and Indian culture. My grandmother narrated stories from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, which left a mark on me. The ‘Indianness’ in me and my love for art and flowers is also because of her. How do you rate yourself as an actress? When you are new, you are raw. But there’s something beautiful about it. I looked innocent in Saawariya whereas in Delhi-6, there was a certain maturity. When I watch these films today, I realise how easily I gave those shots. Now one tends to think before delivering. You’re considered as a fashion icon. How challenging is it to always look stylish? I am in my mid 20s. If I am thought of as an icon at this age, it’s wonderful. Even as a child I loved dolling up. When I did Saawariya and Delhi-6, people said I look like Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi. That meant I was non-glamorous and desi. I took it as a challenge to look glamorous. That’s why I did Aisha and I Hate Luv Storys in which I changed my look. My younger sister Rhea (Kapoor) helped me with this. You’re said to resemble Waheeda Rehman too… True. Even Waheedaji said, “Beta, you look quite like me. It was during the shoot of Delhi-6 that we grew close to each other. Which actresses do you consider stylish? Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Nutan, Sadhana, Sharmila Tagore, Zeenat Aman and Rekha are icons. Apparently, Meenaji used to design her own clothes and jewellery. Zeenat Aman was a stylish actress. I admire Rekhaji because she has worked hard on herself. Like a sponge she has soaked things up. She is a real artiste; she does her own make-up. Be it her hair, her hand movements, her voice – she has devised her own style. If you go back to the 80s and 90s, most actresses dressed similarly as there were few designers. Rekhaji was the only one in that era with a unique style statement. Sonam Kapoor's hot list I enjoy… reading, travelling, music and pets. I believe… Farhan Akhtar is the sexiest hero. I hate… wearing shoes. I love walking bare foot. I love… cooking and can whip up yummy Punjabi dishes, learnt from my nani and dadi (maternal and paternal grandmothers).

Krrish 3: Hrithik-Kangana’s romantic song shoot in Jordan

Dil Tu Hi Bata, a romantic song from Krrish 3, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut was shot in Jordan. The crew had to travel to different locations for hours. The actors even braved sandstorms in the desert. But it was flies, numbering in their thousands, that they faced the most trouble with. They'd spray themselves with insect repellent before every take, while shooting at the Dead Sea. The crew often had to go without lunch as the swarming flies would make it impossible to eat anything. Hrithik, who couldn't miss meals, however, worked his way around the problem by jogging around the set while eating his sandwich.
